My favourite part of the holidays? Christmas brunch. The ol’ turkey dinner gets so much of the spotlight, but brunch is totally where it’s at.
I’ve been making the Christmas morning spread for as long as I can remember. Savoury crepes, eggs benedict, and sweet potato pancakes with fresh jam are the staples on our holiday brunch menu. And in honour of my family’s most loved recipes, I’ll be sharing one each week leading up to the holidays.
Starting it off is my Warm Gingerbread Smoothie! This recipe is the perfect smoothie to whip up before you head out the door for last minute holiday shopping. I usually make this first thing Christmas morning to keep me fueled through present opening and brunch prep.
By adding in the optional boosters, you’ll be giving yourself a meal in a glass! Hemp hearts boost the protein and omega-3s, while the collagen supports the digestive system and healthy skin/hair/nails. Maca powder is amazing for balancing hormones and boosting energy. Sunflower lecithin is incredible for supporting your brain and nervous system. I always love adding a scoop of coconut oil to help reduce inflammation and provide some extra energy. All things we need a little extra lovin’ with around the holidays.
Not only is the coconut milk warmed up on the stove, the spices are naturally warming to the body. Include lots of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove in your dishes to warm the body up and keep your digestion happy at the same time.
The perfect smoothie to whip up before dashing out the door for holiday shopping and visits to the relatives.
