I’ve always loved all things makeup and beauty for as long as I can remember. And growing up in the 90s and early 2000’s, in the pre-Instagram, pre-TikTok, pre-YouTube days, we millennials had to rely on actual magazines for beauty tips. We cut out pages from Seventeen and Cosmo, hoarded the perfume samples, and (if we were lucky) got to test out makeup from those tiny sample packets glued onto ad pages. Just thinking about it brings back all the nostalgic feels—the excitement of flipping through glossy pages and circling must-have products.

But no one was really talking about acne-safe makeup. We were just layering on whatever drugstore foundations and shimmery eyeshadows we could find, completely unaware that some of those products were actually making our breakouts worse.
