Easy Homemade Face Mask with Honey & Lavender Essential Oil

Ingredients for an easy homemade face mask made with honey and lavender

I’m a face mask junkie. But my all time favourite happens to be the simplest one out there. Enter my Easy Homemade Face Mask with Honey and Lavender. And yep, you guessed it! It’s only two ingredients – honey and lavender.

Choosing Your Honey

When it comes to honey, I specifically use Manuka honey for my Easy Homemade Face Mask. Made in New Zealand by bees that pollinate the Manuka bush, Manuka honey is incredibly healing. The properties in Manuka honey are unique to itself and provide so many benefits. Healing wise you can use it for so many things like sore throats, cuts, and burns.

Honey has been used for thousands of years to naturally heal the body, but there are numerous studies that have proved it’s antibacterial effectiveness. Studies have even shown Manuka honey has the highest level of effectiveness. Manuka honey is used around the world in hospitals for wound healing.

When applied to your face, the natural antimicrobial and antibacterial properties of the honey provide instant nutrition for the skin and help repair the tissue. It also helps in the prevention and healing of acne. The Manuka honey even helps remove dead skin cells.

You can find Manuka honey in health food stores, usually in the vitamin and supplement area. You’ll notice there are UMF (unique Manuka factor) ratings. The higher the rating, the stronger the antimicrobial activity. I’ve been using one with a rating of 16 and it’s been working great in my Easy Homemade Face Mask.

Lavender Essential Oil

This is the oil that we go through the quickest in our house. It’s incredible for all things calming. Think burns, bug bites, rashes, irritations, insomnia, blemishes and even fussy babies or upset kiddos. With it’s wide array of beneficial properties, I use Lavender essential oil in a variety of ways. I love adding it into my Easy Homemade Face Mask for it’s almost instantaneous skin calming benefits. Here’s a few more of its top properties:

  • Sedative
  • Astringent
  • Antibacterial
  • Antihistamine
  • Antispasmodic
  • Antidepressant
  • Analgesic
  • Hypotensive
  • Cytophylactic
  • Cardiotonic
  • Nervine
  • Relaxing
  • Soothing
