Simple Blueberry Chia Seed Jam

By The KSW Team · January 16, 2018 · 2 min read

Simple blueberry chia seed jam in a mason jar on white wooden table.

I love how quickly this Blueberry Chia Seed Jam comes together. With only three ingredients, you can make a delicious and flavourful jam.

By whipping up your own chia seed jam, you can be sure that it’s not riddled with sugar and preservatives. And guess what? Blueberries are also FULL of antioxidants. These guys are super important nutrients to include in your diet. Antioxidants are actually involved in the prevention of cellular damage a.k.a. the common pathway for cancer, aging, and a variety of diseases.

Chhhhh-ia!

When chia seeds come into contact with a liquid they become gelatinous – making them perfect for thickening jam. They’re also a great source of protein! Just one ounce contains over 4 grams of protein and about 18 percent of your daily calcium requirements.

Serve It Up

I like to think outside the box when it comes to jam. There are so many other ways you can enjoy it besides on a piece of toast. I add a scoop to coconut yogurt with my Healthy Homemade Granola or top my Two-Ingredients Sweet Potato Pancakes with it.

And before I forget…this jam makes a great homemade gift! I love gifting homemade goodies to my loved ones.  Because let’s be serious – ain’t nobody returning a jar of jam.

Simple Blueberry Chia Seed Jam

With only 3 ingredients (and no sugar!) this really is the perfect jam. Enjoy it with coconut yogurt or topped on weekend pancakes.
Cook Time: 10 minutes

Course: Jam

Ingredients

  • 3 cups frozen organic blueberries
  • 2 tbsp. chia seeds
  • ¼ cup raw honey or maple syrup

Optional:

  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp. ginger ground
  • Pinch unrefined sea salt

Instructions

  • Over medium heat, bring the blueberries to a simmer.
  • Add chia seeds and mix well.
  • Cook down to your desired consistency - about 10 minutes. I like to mash the blueberries down a little with the spoon.
  • Remove from heat - add the raw honey or maple syrup and any optional boosters. Adjust sweetness if needed.
  • Keep in a glass mason jar in the fridge for up to one week. These also freeze great!

Notes

Make a big batch and freeze extras in mason jars. Just make sure to fill the jars no more than 3/4 full to preventing the jar from cracking.
