Healthy Homemade Granola

By The KSW Team · July 18, 2017 · 2 min read

Healthy homemade granola topped on yogurt with fresh berries.

Making your own Healthy Homemade Granola is one of the simplest things to do. I’ll admit, it took me awhile to come around to the idea of making granola because, to me, it seemed too complicated. Well… Could I have been further from the truth?

You can literally put anything your little heart desires into the mix – okay almost anything. Use this recipe as a base to create your own favourite mix! I used pecans and pumpkin seeds in mine, but maybe you’d like to try walnuts and sunflower seeds. Prefer raisins over cranberries? No problemo! Just swap them out. You really can’t go wrong. I encourage you to get creative and make this Healthy Homemade Granola recipe your own.

Have kids? Let them help pour the ingredients in and mix it up with their hands. It’s such a fun little recipe to make together.

You can enjoy my Healthy Homemade Granola in a variety of ways, too. Sprinkle it on fruit or add it to yogurt. I love adding it to my Super Quick Chocolate Quinoa Porridge for a little crunch. Even a handful out of the jar is tastyyyyy!

A little bit about oats

Having a gluten-intolerance myself, my recipes are always gluten-free. Now, oats themselves are in fact a gluten-free grain. However, since they are usually milled on the same equipment as wheat, they run the risk of being cross-contaminated. Always look for your oats to be certified gluten-free, especially if you have an intolerance.

Oats are naturally high in fibre, which helps remove cholesterol from the digestive system and supporting a healthy cardiovascular system. They also contain an antioxidant unique to oats, called avenanthramide, that help prevent free radicals from damaging LDL cholesterol.

A hearty and nutrient dense granola, naturally sweetened with maple syrup. Adds the perfect crunch to yogurt, smoothie bowls or porridges.
