Herb & Garlic Scones (Grain/Gluten-Free)

By The KSW Team · September 29, 2020 · 2 min read

Herb & garlic scones made grain and gluten free on an old-fashioned blue and white plate.

Anything “bread” related is an auto-win on my blog — and for my clients, too. We all love the comfort that bread or baked provides. Enter my latest in this category: Herb & Garlic Scones.

It’s gluten, grain and dairy-free so it’s safe for acne-sufferers to be enjoying alongside a healing soup. Two I love having it with are my Gut-Healing Chicken Soup or Easy Butternut Squash Soup.

Gluten & Your Gut (And Why It Impacts Acne)

When it comes to foods to steer clear of when you’re dealing with acne, gluten is at the top of the list (right alongside dairy and sugar). It’s one of the most inflammation-causing foods you can be putting down the hatch.

Why?

Something called “leaky gut.”

Basically, your stomach has a liner. While there are a number of things that contribute to leaky gut, a big one is poor dietary and inflammatory foods (like gluten). A damaged gut essentially becomes porous and allows undigested food particles and toxins to enter into the bloodstream.

Two problems here:

  1. These food particles aren’t supposed to be in the bloodstream so your body’s immune system mounts an attack — causing food intolerances to pop up.
  2. Inflammation spreads through your entire body.

Both of these are big causes for your acne.

Moral of the story here? Breakouts are a symptom of your damaged gut. Heal your gut = heal your skin. This is the first step of the protocol I use for my clients in The Clear Skin Solution.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups almond flour
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot
  • 2 tbsp coconut flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp herbs of choice
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp oil for brushing the top
  • Optional: 1/2 cup nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavour

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, combine all the wet ingredients. Add to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined (crumbly texture).
  • Place on lined baking sheet and shape into a circle about 2" thick. Cut like a pizza into 8 slices.
  • Separate the pieces from each other slightly. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a little sea salt (if desired).
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
