Sweet & Salty Maca Bliss Balls

By The KSW Team · April 10, 2018 · 2 min read

Sweet and salty maca bliss balls stacked on white marble cutting board.

These Sweet & Salty Maca Bliss Balls are amazing!! The flavour combo totally reminds me of an old school PB&J sandwich (but way healthier!). You can easily whip this recipe together in under 10 minutes, pop them in the fridge, and voila – the perfect snackable treat.

The sweetness of the dates and cranberries are perfectly paired alongside the savouriness of the sunflower seed butter and sea salt. If you don’t have sunflower seed butter on hand, any nut or seed butter would work great.

Move over Peanut Butter

If you’ve read my Almond Butter Smoothie blog you’ll know I tend to shy away from peanut butter. Instead, we love using sunflower seed butter! Since it’s naturally nut free, it’s school safe and a great option for people with allergies.

Not only is it high in protein and healthy fats, but it’s loaded with vitamin E and magnesium. Being an antioxidant, vitamin E helps combat disease-promoting free radicals in the body and boosts your immune system. Magnesium, on the other hand, is known as the relaxing mineral. It helps improve sleep and digestion while relieving muscle spasms and headaches.

Maca Power

For me, the star of this recipe is definitely the maca powder. A Peruvian root, maca has a sweet and butterscotch-like flavour profile. Being an adaptogenic herb, maca is able to better help the body respond to stress.

Maca root also happens to be one of the best superfoods for women. It’s amazing for anything hormone related. I’m talking menopausal symptoms, fatigue, mood, fertility, low libido, estrogen balancing – you name it!

Numerous studies have shown its effects on hormones, especially in relation to improving sexual function in both menopausal and antidepressant prescribed women. Maca is also able to help balance estrogen levels in the body. An imbalance in these levels can result in a myriad of symptoms like mood swings, irregular periods, bloating, and fertility issues.

Sweet & Salty Maca Bliss Balls

The perfect snackable treat with protein, fibre, and good fats. Plus, a little hormone balancing thanks to the maca powder. Nut-free!
