Pink Electrolyte Lemonade

By The KSW Team · July 28, 2020 · 2 min read

Pink electrolyte lemonade in a mason jar with two paper straws and mint.

Keeping up water intake is something I remind my clients in The Clear Skin Solution about constantly. It’s one of the most simple things but often overlooked.

I often hear, “I find water boring and just don’t drink it.”

Adding a little flavour to plain water can make it more enjoyable thus increasing your fluid intake.

Enter my Pink Electrolyte Lemonade.

It’s simple and takes about 5 whole minutes to make. I like adding in a little pink salt to help with electrolyte balance in the body. No sugary sports drinks needed.

Importance of Hydration

Acne is a complex issue. It definitely isn’t solved by drinking 2L of water and calling it a day.

But.

Water is VITAL for the health of your skin and body.

Let’s go through a couple reasons why in the acne department…

One of the key areas of the body I focus on with my clients is the health of the digestive system — which includes the liver*.

Good ol’ H20 helps the liver work in tip top shape in the toxin flushing department.

From there, the body uses the digestive tract to eliminate these toxins through the colon. If you’re constipated (not going to the bathroom daily and not straining), these toxins don’t get eliminated quickly enough. When the waste sits in your digestive tract for too long, the toxins begin to reabsorb into the body.

Bad news bears for your skin.

I tell my clients to make sure they’re getting a minimum of 8 cups of water a day (but ideally closer to 2L).

*If you’re wondering how the gut and liver are connected to acne, read this blog and this one.

Pop of Colour

The incredible pink colour of the lemonade is all thanks to dragon fruit powder. Pitaya, as it’s also known by, has an incredible fish is colour that packs a lot of benefits. Its flavour is equally as good as it looks. Dragon fruit powder has a light and fruity

  • Rich source of nutrients including antioxidants and omega-3s.
  • Good source of magnesium
  • Contains both soluble and insoluble fibre (soluble = happy blood sugar levels and insoluble = happy digestive tract).

Every single one of those things are important to include in any acne healing protocol.
