24 Unexpected Ways to Use Essential Oils

By The KSW Team · August 29, 2017 · 2 min read

Essential oils surrounded by dried flower petals.

Most people know you can use essential oils aromatically. And while diffusing essential oils can have a profound positive impact on your mood, they can actually be used in a wide variety of applications. Here’s a few of my favourite ways on how to use essential oils in every day life.

  1. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the laundry to make your clothes smell great.
  2. Add wild orange to smoothies for an incredible pure citrus flavour.
  3. Oregano oil can be taken internally to help combat viruses, worms, parasites and candida.
  4. For nursing mom, take fennel and clary sage internally to help boost a low milk supply. Use peppermint to reduce supply.
  5. Peppermint applied topically can help ease headaches and muscle pain.
  6. Rich in antioxidants, add a drop of cinnamon to hot water for an immune boosting tea.
  7. Lemon essential oil added to water can help cleanse the body.
  8. Swollen? Grapefruit essential oil is a natural diuretic and can help relieve edema.
  9. Combat digestive problems with peppermint or fennel (babies too!).
  10. Catch some Zzz’s with Vetiver.
  11. Tea tree is great as a spot treatment for acne.
  12. Use eucalyptus to help open congested airways.
  13. Boost concentration with rosemary.
  14. Support your cellular health with frankincense.
  15. Wintergreen helps reduce arthritic pain.
  16. Use helichrysum as “liquid stitches” to help stop bleeding.
  17. Lavender calms burns and bug bites.
  18. Used at the first sign of a cold sore, tea tree and lavender can help lessen the eruption.
  19. Throbbing ear? Basil, tea tree and lavender use on the OUTSIDE of the ear can help fight off an ear infection.
  20. If you’re suffering from allergies lavender, lemon and peppermint can help ease your symptoms.
  21. Soak your produce in water, vinegar, and lemon essential oil to give them a good clean.
  22. Disinfect surfaces with wild orange and tea tree.
  23. Use lavender, geranium, peppermint, lemongrass and terrashield to repel mosquitoes, ticks, gnats, and flies. Get the recipe here.
  24. Cedarwood and tea tree to help a dry, itchy scalp.
