Cinnamon Baked Apples
I love my grandmother very much…but she is a horrible cook and even worse baker. My mom said the only recipe my grandmother was good at making was these Cinnamon Baked Apples. It was originally my great-grandmother’s recipe but has been slightly tweaked over the years.
An Apple A Day
Apples have become a symbol of health. Luckily, they have some pretty powerful benefits to back up their status.
- High in fibre to aid in digestion
- Contains pectin which is a type of fibre that acts like a probiotic
- Rich in immune-boosting vitamin D
- Lowers your risk of heart disease
- Vitamins, minerals, and fibre in apples help to flush all the toxins out of the liver
Holiday Favourites
My mom makes a big batch of Cinnamon Baked Apples for our family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. They are the perfect dessert to follow up a hearty meal of turkey, stuffing, and roasted veggies.
While us Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving last month, our neighbours to the south will be enjoying their holiday dinner Thursday. I thought I’d give our American friends a round up of holiday recipes they can try.
Or maybe you’re on the hunt for some yummy Christmas recipes to have alongside your turkey? Save these and have a healthy holiday dinner next month!
- Classic Grain-Free Stuffing with Savoury Herbs
- Shaved Brussels Sprouts
- Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries (cut into half moons instead of fry shape)
- Herbed Paleo Keto Bread with Seedy Topping
- Homemade Bone Broth for a base to your gravy or soup (or to make with leftover turkey bones!)
- Hot Holiday Punch
- Easy Paleo Pumpkin Pie with Coconut Flour Crust

Ingredients
- 6 organic apples like Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or pink lady
- 6 Medjool dates pitted and chopped
- ¼ cup raw pecans crumbled
- ¼ cup raw pumpkin seeds
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- Splash of water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- Scoop out the core from top of the apple, leaving a well. Do not cut all the way through. Place in a glass pyrex dish.
- Combine dates, pecans, and pumpkin seeds in a bowl. Evenly stuff the mixture into the well of each apple, leaving a small mound on top of each.
- Drizzle with maple syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Add a splash of water to the bottom of the pan to help prevent syrup from burning.
- Bake for about 45 minutes or until the apples are tender, but not mushy. Use a spoon to use any of the liquid in the bottom of the pan to pour over each apple.
- Remove from oven and cool to just warm.
