Almond Butter Smoothie

Almond Butter Smoothie

Nut butters like almond, brazil, cashew or hazelnut are tasty ways to add some protein to your meal – smoothies included.

Notice how I didn’t say peanut butter?

Sorry Peanut Butter

As absolutely delicious as it is, I gave up peanut butter a number of years ago. Peanuts are actually a legume and grown underground. This puts them at a high risk of being contaminated with mold and fungus, specifically Aspergillus fungus. This fungus then produces carcinogenic aflatoxins on peanuts. According to the National Cancer Institute, exposure to aflatoxins is associated with an increased risk of liver cancer. Long-term exposure can also result in food allergies, autoimmune disease reactions, and growth impairment.

For our family, peanut butter is not an option. Thankfully, almond butter has taken its place.

Almond Butter

Almonds are incredible for cognitive function. They contain L-carnitine and riboflavin, which are key nutrients for supporting brain health. Almonds are also an incredible source of the antioxidant gamma-tocopherol. This powerful form of vitamin E combats free radicals and oxidative stress in the body that can lead to cancer. The vitamin E in almonds also nourishes the skin and reduces the appearance of aging.

I think those are pretty good reasons to make the switch from PB to AB.

Cinnamon Essential Oil

This is one of my favourite essential oils to keep in the kitchen. Cinnamon supports healthy metabolic function and helps maintain a healthy immune system. It’s such a strong and potent oil, just one drop is all you need. To learn more about the only essential oils I trust and use on my family, click here.
